Snapped sash cord? Cord replacement in Carmarthenshire

A snapped cord is the most common sash window fault, and one of the quickest to fix. New cords fitted, the window rebalanced and back in full working order.

Signs a cord has gone

  • The sash drops or slams down when you let go
  • One side sits lower than the other, or the sash jams at an angle
  • A loose cord hanging from the side of the frame
  • The top sash has slid down and won't stay closed

Until it's fixed: keep the window shut. A sash with a snapped cord can drop suddenly and trap fingers.

What the job includes

  • New sash cords fitted
  • The sash rebalanced, with 2lb of makeweight per window included where needed
  • Pulley wheels lubricated
  • Both sashes left running smoothly and staying where you put them

Send a photo of the window and your town, and you'll get a fixed price before anything is booked.

Common questions

Why do sash cords snap?

Cords wear where they run over the pulley wheel, and old cotton cords weaken with age and damp. Once one goes, the others on that window are often not far behind.

Should I replace just the broken cord?

It's usually worth replacing the cords on both sides of the sash at the same time, as they've had the same wear. We'll tell you what we find before doing anything extra.

Is a broken cord dangerous?

It can be. Without its cord a sash can drop without warning, so keep the window closed and keep children away from it until it's repaired.

Do you need to take the window away?

No. Cord replacement is done at your property.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how many cords and windows need doing. Send a photo for a free, fixed quote.
